Woodford County
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
WCHS, Woodford County High School is a public high school located in Versailles, Kentucky. It serves grades 9th to 12th and since the 1970's is the only public high school in Woodford County. The Principal Head is Mr. Rob Akers and Associate principle is Mr. Bob Gibson. There used to be 3 high schools in Woodford County, Midway High School, Woodford County High School, and Simmons High School.
WCHS was ranked just below 1,000 on newsweeks list of top schools in the nation, only 5 other Kentucky schools made the list. In 2005 WCHS met all goals. They also met most of the Kentucky Department of Education goals scoring a 79.6 Overall, the highest being Practical Living Vocational Studies 90.1607 and the lowest being Writing 66.8237.
WCHS has many sports teams including wrestling, cross country, track and field, football, basketball, baseball, softball, boys soccer, girls soccer, swimming, diving, tennis, ultimate frisbee, step team, and golf. The wrestling team is nationally known and won state in the 2005 to 2006 season. They have won 14 state championships in their history, more than any other school in the state. They incidentally played 18 games, one more than the maximum 17. The Band was ranked 5th in the state during first year of competition.
The athletics programs include baseball, basketball, men's, basketball, women's, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, men's and women's, tennis, men's and women's, track, volleyball, wrestling. Woodford County High School is a dynamic school that promotes academic achievement, high expectations, respect, unity, and safety.
Woodford County High School strives to develop specific goals and high academic standards, using communication and commitment within a shared learning environment. The mission of Woodford County High School is to offer an environment in which all students will acquire the necessary skills to become responsible thinkers who appreciate diversity and are productive citizens in their community.
