Washington-Lee
High school is a name used in some parts of the world and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Washington High School is a top high school situated in the United States. Washington-Lee is located between Stafford Street and Quincy Street. Gregg Robertson is the principal of the school. It is a public high school with grades from 9 to 12. The school opened in September of 1924 and graduated it first class in 1925. Their highly diverse student population offers broad world perspective and fosters an enriched learning environment. Washington-Lee is fully accredited by the southern association of colleges and secondary schools.
The International Baccalaureate, IB program is a rigorous pre university course of study, leading to examinations that meet the needs of highly motivated secondary school students between the ages of 16 and 19 years. New members of the Washington-Lee community enthusiastically support and preserve regional and school customs. Along with this the school teaches various subjects like arts, business and computer science, gifted and physical education, science, music and many more.
The school also plays a major role in supporting extra curricular activities. Various sporting events are conducted by the school for the students. The award winning marching generals consists of the marching band with pit percussion, the drum line and the color guard. These units attend two weeks of band camp before the school year starts to be ready for September parades and half time shows. They travel to competitions throughout Virginia, play at home games and other school functions and occasionally participate in spring competitions and parades.
The mission of Washington-Lee High School is to prepare students to become confident, competent, ethical individuals and responsible citizens by creating a positive and nurturing school environment where staff, students, parents and the community work together to promote lifelong learning and to provide opportunities for students to reach their maximum potential.
