High school is a name used in some parts of the world and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.

Warwick High School is a top high school situated in the United States. Warwick High School is a high school in Newport News, Virginia. It is the oldest high school in the city still in operation and is home to the Newport News centre for the International Baccalaureate, IB program. The school originally opened in 1926 as Morrison High School and became Warwick High School in 1948. The facilities expanded to their present size in 1968.

Designed to promote a more equitable racial balance in the city's four high schools, the court order changed Warwick from a neighborhood school to one that draws from a wide range of differing demands and remains committed to providing a program of studies and activities sufficiently diversified to meet the needs, special interests and varying backgrounds of its students. William Styron is the Pulitzer prize winning author. The 1971 court ordered busing dramatically changed the nature of Warwick's population and community.

The school curriculum, as well as curricular and extra curricular activities, includes experiences that enable students to realize personal and civic goals which allow them to mature and to be responsible members of our constantly changing society. The school participated in sports events as well. The school's sports teams are known as the Raiders and enrollment currently stands at about 1968. Newsweek magazine ranked Warwick 86th overall in the nation in terms of high schools and exam testing in 2006, a drop from their 62nd ranking in the 2005 listings.

The students and faculty blend rigorous academic studies and exchanges into lives lived fully and committed to making a difference. In this regard, knowledge, honor, courage, and service stand out as elements of character important in their daily lives and to the future of each student. The school believes that intellectual and moral excellence is achieved through the active participation of many people in diverse roles, which brings in a wide range of expertise and experience.
