High school is a name used in some parts of the world and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.

Loudoun Valley High School is a public secondary school in Purcellville, Virginia. The school is part of Loudoun County Public Schools and is located in the town of Purcellville. It is the sole high school for the western half of Loudoun County, which includes Purcellville, Hamilton, Round Hill, Lovettsville, Hillsboro, Philomont and Bluemont. Loudoun Valley opened in 1962 and is the second oldest high school in Loudoun County. The current principal is Ms. Susan Ross.

Throughout its history, Valley has remained a predominantly rural high school, maintained a small enrollment of roughly 800 students each year and did not experience much of the sprawl that eastern Loudoun County has experienced in the 1980's and 1990's. Until the 1999 to 2000 school year, Valley was the smallest high school in Loudoun County. The mascot is a Viking and the sports teams currently play in the national district and northern region. They play an independent schedule in the regular season and join the other national district schools for the playoffs in all sports except football where Valley plays as a full member.

The students and faculty blend rigorous academic studies and exchanges into lives lived fully and committed to making a difference. In this regard, knowledge, honor, courage, and service stand out as elements of character important in their daily lives and to the future of each student. The school believes that intellectual and moral excellence is achieved through the active participation of many people in diverse roles, which brings in a wide range of expertise and experience.
