High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
Glenbrook North High School, or GBN, is a public four-year high school located in Northbrook, Illinois, a North Shore suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Northfield Township High School District 225, which also includes Glenbrook South High School. Glenbrook North was established in 1953. Dr. Michael D. Riggle is the principal of the school and Spartans is the Mascot of the school.
 
Glenbrook North has been named one of the best academic high schools in the Chicago area. Glenbrook North competes in the Central Suburban League and Illinois High school association. In 2005 and 2006, the boys Varsity basketball team was nationally ranked and reached the Illinois State Quarterfinals three out of four years during 2003 to 2006. This included placing third in 2003 and winning the IHSA AA state championship in 2005. The team, coached by Dave Weber, brother of University of Illinois head coach Bruce Weber, was led by All-American shooting guard Jon Scheyer who accepted a basketball scholarship to Duke University in 2005.
 
Glenbrook North offer the academic department like as art, business education, health etc. The visual arts department of Glenbrook North High School is committed to the education of students in visual literacy and the creation of original artwork. As well as they offer the different types of sports, like baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, tennis etc. They offer extensive curricular offerings in English, math, science, social studies, foreign language, art, applied technology, business education, radio and TV, driver education, music, physical education, family and consumer sciences etc and over 20 advanced placement courses.
 
The school celebrated its 50th anniversary during the 2003-2004 academic year. The school was built to serve the residents of towns of Northbrook and Glenview. Glenbrook North High School is a learning community dedicated to students and committed to quality of thought, word, and deed.
