High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
GRHS, Glen Ridge High School is a comprehensive public high school in Glen Ridge, in Essex County, New Jersey, United States, as part of the Glen Ridge Public Schools. GRHS is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and by the New Jersey Department of Education. Glen Ridge High School houses students in grades 7-12. Excellence in academic preparation is valued in both the school and community cultures. More than 98 percent of the graduates from the class of 2004 went on to study at four or two year colleges and universities.
 
Glen Ridge High School offers a diverse program of studies with particular emphasis on college preparation. Basic academic courses are offered at multiple ability levels. Honors and advanced placement courses are also available in most disciplines. The interests of students are also addressed by programs in practical arts, graphic arts, photography, computers and performing and fine arts. In addition, students are provided with the opportunity to attend the middle college program at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
 
Glen Ridge High School has often been cited as a top school in New Jersey and the country and has been cited for the excellent curricular and co-curricular programs. Glen Ridge High School was the 10th ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 316 schools statewide, in New Jersey Monthly magazine's September 2006 cover story on the state's Top Public High Schools. Glen Ridge High School competes in the Colonial Hills Conference which is comprised of eighteen public and parochial high schools covering Essex County, Morris County and Somerset County in west central New Jersey, under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association.
