East Aurora
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
East Aurora High School is a public four year high school located in Aurora, Illinois a western suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of East Aurora District 131. The Principal of school is Sheila Conrad. The students are 2,534. District 131 has the distinction of being the first school district in Illinois, becoming a charter district April 30, 1847. In 2005, East Aurora had an average composite ACT score of 16.6 and graduated 62.0 percent of its senior class. The average class size is 17.3. East Aurora has not made adequate yearly progress on the prairie state achievements examination, a state test part of the no child left behind Act.
East Aurora has 23 athletic teams, of 11 boys and 12 girls’ teams, which compete in the Upstate Eight Conference and Illinois High School Association. East Aurora's mascot is the Tomcats. Teams include football, tennis, baseball, softball, bowling, volleyball, track and field, basketball and soccer. East Aurora offers dozens of opportunities for student’s participation in extracurricular activities. The activities include drama, Speculum, guitar club and family focus.
The mission of East Aurora School is to provide an environment in which all students will acquire the necessary skills to become responsible thinkers who appreciate diversity and are productive citizens in their community.
