Duluth
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Duluth High School is a secondary school of approximately 2,000 students in Duluth, a suburb of Atlanta, in the U.S. state of Georgia. It was built in 1958, the school is ranked 566 in Newsweek's list of the nation's top public high schools for 2006. It has also been named a Georgia School of Excellence and a National School of Excellence. The school mascot is the wildcat, the principal is Mr. Patrick Blenke.
Their athletic departments include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball. The clubs includes in school are interact club, int'l book film club, chess club, drama club, philosophy club, psychology club, readers rally club and Spanish club. For the 2005 to 2006 year, Duluth had an average score of 1593 on the SATs, the second highest score in the county and 24th highest in the state. Their band received 1st place in their division and also received 1st in class for Drum Major and Flag Line in the 2006 Georgia Bandmasters Competition, October 14, 2006 in Cumming, Georgia.
Duluth High has also been selected as the recipient of the 2005 to 06 Siemens award for AD, Advanced Placement in Georgia based on its performance and participation in the disciplines of math, science and technology. The mission of Duluth High School is to provide an environment in which all students will acquire the necessary skills to become responsible thinkers who appreciate diversity and are productive citizens in their community.
