Columbus Alternative
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district. CAHS, Columbus Alternative High School is a public high school located on the north side of Columbus, Ohio. It is a part of Columbus Public Schools. Sherry Badger is principal of the school. The College Board recognized Columbus Alternative High School as one of seven schools in the country for the advancement of higher level math and science for minority students. The Siemens Award earned for Advanced Placement Scores. CAHS has two IB, International Baccalaureate classes now in progress. The faculty and 37 students are immersed in striving for the coveted IB diploma. Columbus Alternative High School has been recognized as one of 200 outstanding high schools in the nation by the United States Department of Education. CAHS has been named a school of excellence as part of the National Science Foundation’s USI grant program. CAHS continues to surpass all state academic standards for high schools. Columbus Alternative High School is a public magnet high school which is designed to serve the needs of the academically oriented student. The course offerings include academics and the fine and performing arts. CAHS does not participate in interscholastic sports.
The AP, Advanced Placement courses are offered in the following subjects includes Literature and language composition, calculus AB and BC, chemistry, French, German, European and American history, Spanish, physics, art history, Latin and biology. At Columbus Alternative High School, their mission is to provide a learning environment where students are challenged to reach their individual potential in the achievement of knowledge and the development of personal, cultural and democratic values essential for future success.
