Cold Spring Harbor
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
The Cold Spring Harbor Central School District is nestled on the north shore of Long Island approximately twenty-five miles from New York City. Mr. Jay Matuk is principal of this school. Cold Spring Harbor Jr. Sr. High School provide academic, personal, career and college counseling to the students in a professional and individualized manner. Counselors are advisors and teachers, as well as advocates for students. They are also the primary support person who works with students and parents throughout the student’s experience at the Jr.-Sr. High School.
Technology is a twenty week program that is taken by all eighth grade students. Through design, project planning and building methods, students model solutions to real problems and develop an understanding of technology. This is a hands-on course with emphasis on tools, materials and classroom projects. The students will develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. They not only strive to offer a quiet, comfortable learning environment for their students, but also to function as a true hub of information for their school community.
The philosophy and goals of the physical education program are consistent with the philosophy and goals of the total school program. There is a strong feeling on the part of the students, faculty and parents that physical education is an integral part of the overall education experience in school.
At Cold Spring Harbor, their mission is to provide a learning environment where students are challenged to reach their individual potential in the achievement of knowledge and the development of personal, cultural and democratic values essential for future success.
