Sweet Home
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Sweet Home High School, or SHHS, is a New York public high school located in Amherst, New York. The school was established in the year 1849. Paul Hendel is the principal of the school. Sweet Home High School is one of 6 schools in the Sweet Home Central School District which provides an education for student’s grade 9 through 12 Panther is the mascot while the colors are Blue and Gold. The school is listed at number 792 by Newsweek in the annual list of 1,000 Top United States schools.
Sweet Home High School offers an exciting variety of courses and activities to help prepare students for post secondary education and future careers. The instructional program is designed to encourage students to achieve at the highest level possible, with emphasis on Regents, Honor and Advanced Placement courses. An academic achievement center provides support to students as they strive for academic excellence.
Besides core academic subjects, students may enroll in electives from the following areas like art, business, computer, science, music, technology and home and careers. Over 50 percent of the students participate in interscholastic sports. There are over 30 extracurricular offerings that provide ample opportunities for students to explore and develop social, vocational and cultural interest. It also offers and competes competitively in a number of sports, including football, basketball, baseball, golf, gymnastics, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball and many more.
The school curriculum, as well as curricular and extra curricular activities, includes experiences that enable students to realize personal and civic goals which allow them to mature and to be responsible members of our constantly changing society. The mission of school is to provide their students equal opportunities to grow along with all round development. It helps the students to understand their true potential and acquire knowledge in a unique way resulting in the development of values which are essential for future success.
