High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
McIntosh High School is a public secondary school located in Peachtree City, Georgia. The school, governed by the Fayette County School System, serves most of Peachtree City. The school was named a Georgia School of Excellence in 2000. Tracie Fleming is the principal of the school and their student population is 1,732. The school was named after William McIntosh, a Creek Indian. McIntosh was opened in early December 1981 and at the time it was barely completed, with no gymnasium and a dirt parking lot. Eventually, McIntosh would rise up from the dirt and by the late 1980s it was know as one of the cleanest and best high schools in Georgia.
Football is a traditionally weak sport at McIntosh. The school also has strong athletic programs in soccer, volleyball, track, tennis, and other sports as well as one of the best academic records of any public school in Georgia, including the highest SAT scores in Fayette County for 2005. McIntosh offers a wide variety of clubs and extracurricular activities, including the debate team, chess club, Beta club, Key club, Academic Bowl, the fishing club, Latin club, foreign language clubs, book club, even so far as the newly formed Tetris Club. However both automotive technology and construction have been phased out of the McIntosh curriculum, despite having the facilities to accommodate both. McIntosh also partakes in political banter, as the school hosts the Young Libertarians, Young Federalists, Young Democrats and the Young Republicans.

McIntosh has the only golfcart parking lot at a high school in the world, which was added to the school along with a new state of the art gymnasium that opened durring the 2004-2005 school year, as well as a new auditorium that replaced the exsisting gymnasium built in 1982. The McIntosh school aims on targeting the success of their students. The institution is renowned due to qualities like supportive learning environment, respected and enthusiastic staff and faculty members, and the capability to meet the needs of the community’s wide ranging requirements.
