Mariemont
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Mariemont High School is a public high school located in Mariemont, Ohio, a wealthy suburb of Cincinnati, and part of the Mariemont City School District. Mariemont High School is known for its high academic standards. Dr. James Renner is the principal of the school and Tom Crosby is the vice principal of the school. Mariemont has been a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence four separate times. The years include 1984-85, 1988-89, 2001-02 and 2004-05. Mariemont is the first to receive this award four times in the state of Ohio and the fourth nation wide.
Mariemont offers a college preparatory curriculum with well over 90 percent of graduates each year going to an accredited college or university. Mariemont offers basic courses in such areas as Maths, English, Science, Social Studies and Foreign Languages namely Latin, German, Spanish and French as well as a wide array of elective classes. The Technology department is particularly strong. Mariemont has a seven bell school day. Mariemont offers primarily college preparatory classes but also has advanced placement, foundations and special education classes.
Mariemont offers a wide array of extra curricular activities for the student body. The participation fee for these groups is generally free or very inexpensive. Many members of the student body participate. Some extra curriculars include Latin club, Latin quiz team, string orchestra, world affairs and literary magazine, environmental club, key club, Spanish, leadership council, National Honors Society, book club, academic team, mock trial and many more. Mariemont is part of CHL, the Cincinnati Hills League. The mission of Mariemont School is to provide an environment in which all students will acquire the necessary skills to become responsible thinkers who appreciate diversity and are productive citizens in their community.
