Mission Bay
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Mission Bay High School is a public school located in the Pacific Beach suburb of San Diego, California. The school was founded in 1953. Pacific Beach had been long awaiting its own high school and previous to the opening of the school students attended La Jolla High or Point Loma High. It is a magnet school with emphasis on Global Studies and Technology. In Fall of 2006, Mission Bay will offer International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme courses. Cheryl Seelos is the Principal, and Jeff Luna is the Vice Principal of the school.
The Mission Bay High School’s mascot is a buccaneer. Buccaneer any of the freebooters preying on Spanish ships and settlements in the West Indies in the 17th century, pirate. Over the years, the original Buccaneer has changed and currently appears to be more politically correct' than in the past. Mission Bay High School is committed to excellence: motivating and challenging students through a partnership of students, staff, parents and community. Students will develop an individual and a community sense of belonging and responsibility. Creativity will be nurtured as students acquire, apply and practice the knowledge, skills and behaviors essential for success in the future.
