Broadneck
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Broadneck High School, BHS is a school in the United States, located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland on Green Holly Drive, near the cities of Annapolis and Arnold. Broadneck High School was established in 1982. The Bruin is the school's mascot. It is one of the newer schools in the county. It is known for the breadth of its Advanced Placement program. The Broadneck Bruins are rivals with the nearby Severna Park High School Falcons. BHS feeder middle schools are Severn River Middle School, and Magothy Middle School. In 2006, Newsweek ranked Broadneck 194th among high schools in the nation. The school is a part of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools system. Lucinda Hudson is the Principal of the school.
Broadneck High School's athletics teams are the Bruins and Lady Bruins and their colors are maroon and grey, as defined by the school's first athletic director, Mr. Timothy McMullen. The school has won numerous state and local championships. The current athletic director is Mr. Ken Kazmarek. The Bruins made it to the Maryland State Championships during the 2003 to 2004 school year. The Bruins were Regional Champiams during the 2006 to 2007 school year, and lost to Suitland high school in the State Semi finals.
The mission of Broadneck High School is to enhance the students' academic, artistic, social, and technological skills to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing and increasingly diverse society.
