Black River
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Black River High School is a top high school situated in the United States. Black River High School is located at 491 Columbia Avenue, Holland. Ms. Barbara A. Zeller is the President for the school. In response to a need identified by its founders, Black River Public School has created a college preparatory program now encompassing 1st through 12th grade students, providing an environment thriving on participation, responsiveness and experiential learning. Black River's progress has been steady since 1996. Though operations began in the former Federal School building at East Eighth and Walnut, it was quickly apparent that this site would not accommodate the growth to which the school was committed.
In 2001 they added a Montessori-style upper elementary program with the goal of further enhancing academic achievement. Black River offers sports in the fall, winter, and spring. They are a member of the MHSAA, Michigan High School Athletic Association and are a class D program. Black River Public School has made AYP, Annual Yearly Progress in its elementary, middle, and high school programs, which is gauged by the state of Michigan and the NCLB, Child Left Behind program. The school has now earned regional accreditation through NCA, the National Communication Association. The school is now in a position to analyze over the coming years the benefits of NCA for its student body. The school has also earned national accreditation through AALE, the American Academy for Liberal Education, an institution that has recognized the school for exceptional results of national assessments.
Their mission is to prepare each student for college and for life through a challenging curriculum which accommodates individual learning styles. They want to have their students discover responsibility for their own lives as well as empathy for all people and cultures. Through a deep respect for independent thinking, they strive to guide their students in their personal growth toward a genuine self-knowledge so that they can achieve their full human potential. To succeed in their mission they need the students' and parents' active partnership and agreement with the School Mission, which includes a personal commitment to serious academic challenge.
