Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies is the largest magnet school in the Los Angeles Unified School District, 1780 students in the grades 4 to 12. The student body, by court order, is integrated with a 60 percent combined minority and 40 percent Anglo student population. The philosophy at Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies is that parents and members of the community have the opportunity to share in the educational development of the students.
Robert S. Weinberg is a Principal of the school. Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies utilizes and will continue to expand the use of advanced technology to prepare the total child for success. They recognize and support college and non-college bound pathways. It is their goal to offer members of the school community opportunities to assist in the development of their students' social, vocational, and academic well-being.
Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies are further committed to helping students, grades 4 to 12, achieves life goals through an integrated curriculum. They will provide academic counseling services that allow students to make attainable career choices which will lead them to matriculate into colleges, universities and vocational facilities.
The mission of Sherman Oaks Center is to challenge students to maximize their potential as learners, achievers, and productive world citizens. School will offer for all Students rigorous standards based curricula in preparation for advanced educational opportunities, career paths to provide a school to career with employment and higher education, the knowledge and skill necessary to attain optimal health and physical fitness and to maintain both throughout their lives.
