Bellevue High School is a public secondary school located in Bellevue, Washington, USA. In the 2005-2006 school year, Bellevue had 1492 students enrolled in grades 9 through 12. The school principal is Mike Bacigalupi, and the assistant principals are Dan Irvine and Keith Schacht. Their mascot is the wolverine. Bellevue High School generally serves students in Bellevue School District's West Zone, which includes the towns of Medina, Yarrow Point, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point and Beaux Arts, and the neighborhoods of Enatai, Woodridge, Wilburton and Downtown Bellevue.
The school has recently won national recognition for its excellence in academics, ranking among the top 50 schools in the nation for the number of AP, Advanced Placement tests taken divided by the number of seniors by Newsweek Magazine for the past few years. All regular high schools in the Bellevue School District are on the list. It has also been ranked the best public high school number 1 in the nation by Newsweek Magazine based on the number of AP tests taken divided by the number of seniors. However, Bellevue High School has reached its building population limit and has closed its open enrollment policy for the 2006-2007 school year Bellevue's 20 varsity teams and 45 other teams provide a range of team and individual sports.
Bellevue High's football team has and beaten many notable teams such as Long Beach Poly and De La Salle of Concord, which had a 151-game winning streak. Music groups include several choirs such as an intro concert choir, advanced women's choir, and the Bellairs, a select jazz group that performs in local and national competitions. The mission of Bellevue High School is to provide their students with opportunities to obtain the skills needed to become productive, responsible citizens, capable of making positive contributions to a changing society.
