Athens
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
AHS, Athens High School is located in Troy, Michigan. The school's population, serving grades 9 to 12, is about 2000 students. Athens' strongest rivalry is with the Colts of Troy High School. Their entire school community is devoted to providing educational excellence in academics, fine arts and athletics. They take great pride in the number of opportunities their students have to explore their talents and pursue their dreams. Athens is an excellent school due to their rigorous curriculum, state of the art facilities and caring faculty. Outstanding parent and community support also make AHS a great place for students to learn and grow.
Mr. John Toma is the Interim Principal of school. The comprehensive curriculum includes 18 AP, Advance Placement courses. Also, Athens specializes in many advanced, career and special education programs that give students a greater choice in learning. The school encourages students to become athletes in the truest sense of the word, emphasizing participation in a range of sports. In an effort to accommodate students of all skill levels, Athens offers teams at varsity, junior varsity and freshman levels, each with different areas of emphasis.
Athens High School believes that all students can make positive contributions to society. To ensure this, the staff is committed to effective education in an environment where the full intellectual, social, physical and emotional development of each student is the goal. In partnership with the community, they will encourage cooperation, self-esteem, and respect for a diverse population.
