North Springs
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
North Springs High School is a public secondary school located in Sandy Springs, Georgia. It is the only Arts and Sciences magnet school in Fulton County and is part of the Fulton County School System. Dr. Vicky L. Ferguson is the Principal of the school. The school’s mascot is Spartan and school colors are Orange and Blue.
Students may participate in the Visual and Performing Arts component and the Mathematics and Science component depending on their qualifications and interests. Students participating in the Visual and Performing Arts component study in the areas of Music, Visual Art, Dance, or Drama through group and class activities, exhibits, performances, and community involvement. Students in the Mathematics and Science component can take Math and Science classes that would not normally be available in high school, e.g. Biotechnology and Organic Chemistry.
North Springs High School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools, SACS and the Georgia Department of Education. The vast majority of the 2005 graduating class is 97 percent attends a four or two year college, and 68 percent of the 2005 graduating class are Hope scholars. North Springs was a Georgia School of Excellence, a Grammy Signature School, and a US news report outstanding high school. It was also one of Newsweek Magazine's Top 500 High Schools. It should be noted that the aforementioned awards were given in the past and were meant to reflect the status of the educational institution during the year in which the award was given.
Student’s activities are Academic Organizations, Athletic & Recreational, Career and Success Organizations, Computers & Electronics, Hobbies & Interests, Anime Club, Linguistic Organizations, Music Ensembles, Performing Arts, Science and Environmental Organizations, Service and Volunteer Organizations, Student Government, Student Publications, Visual Arts, and Writing & Reading.
The mission of North Springs High School is to provide educational opportunities that enable all students and staff to reach their potential in a safe, supportive environment.
