Coronado
CHS, Coronado High School is fully accredited by the state of California and is a California Distinguished School, a National Blue Ribbon School, and a New American High School. The school principal is Karl Mueller and its assistant principal is Jennifer Moore. It is one of only 124 public schools in the United States. CHS was one of only 17 high schools nationwide named a New American High School. As a New American High School, CHS is dedicated to ensuring that all students meet challenging academic standards and are prepared for college and careers.
CHS has special programs to enhance the educational opportunities for is students. The ROP, Regional occupational program provides students with vocational courses. The CoSA, Coronado School of the Arts, a specialized secondary program, is a school-within-a-school devoted to career education in the arts. CoSA provides courses for approximately 12 percent of the students. The CNMA, Coronado New Media Academy offers a unique educational opportunity for students with career-focused classes in video and film, media design and animation. Three special education programs, including a RSP, Resource Specialist Program, SDC, a Special Day Class and a SHC, Severely Handicapped Class are available to students who need these services. Students in the special education programs are mainstreamed into the regular school curriculum for much of their coursework. Clubs are the backbone of student activities at CHS.
Their school facilities are safety, cleanliness and adequacy of school facilities, including any needed maintenance to ensure good repair. The staff of Coronado High School create a student-centered learning environment that serve the entire student population. They enable each student to prepare for his or her future by developing the skills, the knowledge, and the confidence necessary for every student to seek a meaningful life both individually and as a productive member of the community. The excellent staff of teachers, counselors, administrators and support personnel at CHS is dedicated to helping students develop and achieve their goals. Their goal is to challenge their students with a rigorous academic core curriculum and an exciting array of co-curricular programs and offerings.
