Milton
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
MHS, Milton High School lies in the shadows of metropolitan Atlanta within the city of Alpharetta, Georgia, a few blocks away from Main Street, USA. The Principal of the school is Ron Tesch. The school has moved from its original location in downtown Alpharetta to a new foundation near the local middle school, Northwestern Middle School. The school's new campus is located in the newly incorporated City of Milton. The school is a public school and serves 9 to 12 grades. The school mascot is Eagle and school colors are red, white, and blue.
Milton also employs a controversial academy system that allows students to choose a track of sorts that personalizes their schooling experience. For their freshman year, all students must take the freshman academy. From 10th grade on, students can choose between the math and science academy, social sciences academy, and the humanities academy. Milton High School has excelled in most sports over the years and is the solid foundation of the school. The MHS baseball team has made it to playoffs for the past numerous years under the direction of coach Greg Robinson where they also won the state championship in 2003.
In the January 2005 issue of Points North magazine, Milton was listed in the Top 27 High Schools in the Northside. This school is highly academic and offers not only several Advanced Placement courses, but a wide variety of athletic and extra curricular opportunities for all students.
