High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
Lake Oswego High School, LOHS is a public school in Lake Oswego, Oregon in the Lake Oswego School District. As of Oct. 1 2005, the school enrolls 1,294 students and employs 73 faculty and 41 staff members.
 
Lake Oswego is a four-year comprehensive high school with a rigorous academic curriculum. Having attained the highest SAT, Scholastic Aptitude Test scores in the Portland, Oregon Metro Southwest area, and as one of Oregon's highest academic ranking high schools, LOHS is accredited through the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. The school day consists of four periods on an alternative day rotation. Bruce Plato is the Principal, John Parke is the Vice Principal and Cindy Schubert is the Assistant Principal of the school.
 
The doors of Lake Oswego High School were first opened in 1951. Since then it has grown from a six-year school to a three-year and to a four-year school. The co-curricular and vocational programs offered help to present a balanced curriculum to meet the needs of all students. In its history the school and other Lake Oswego schools have received many honors for scholarship, leadership, and athletics on the local, state, and national level.
 
Although the school prides itself more on academic and other achievements, Lake Oswego High School offers a variety of athletics including the sports like Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, Swimming, Wrestling, Skiing, Baseball, Softball, Tennis, Track and Field, Golf, Dance, and Cheerleading.

Lake Oswego is devoted to the education and individual improvement of every candidate. The school attempts to be aware and responsive in its program offerings in order to mirror the requirements of the changing world.
