Jericho
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district. Jericho High School is an American high school in the hamlet of Jericho in Nassau County, New York. It is the only high school in the Jericho Union Free School District. It was founded in 1959. Joseph Prisinzano is the Principal of the school. The sports teams are known as the Jayhawks. Jericho High School has long-standing rivalries with neighboring Syosset High School and Roslyn High School. Jericho Soccer has been perennially strong in recent years, going to the State Championships in both 2004-2005, and winning in 2005. In the 2006 season the Varsity team made it to the Nassau County championship, but lost to Valley Stream South in overtime. Jericho also boasts a competitive Varisty basketball team that has won many recent County Class Championships. Jericho's Varsity Football team, however, is largely considered one of the weakest in the county, consistently ranking in the bottom 3 along with Oyster Bay High School and Roslyn High School. The Jericho Public Schools are committed to nurturing the individual capabilities and unique talents of all members of the educational community and preparing them for the rapid technological changes of the information age.
