Lake Mary High School
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Lake Mary High School is located in the Seminole County community of Lake Mary, Florida, 20 miles north of Orlando. Boyd E. Karns, Jr. is the principal of the school. Lake Mary High School was the fourth high school in Seminole County, opening for the 1981-1982 academic year. The 300,000 square foot physical plant includes an 800 seat auditorium, 890 seat cafeteria, 2,200 seat gymnasium, media center, and 13 computer labs.
Lake Mary High School students are drawn from suburban residential neighborhoods of unincorporated Seminole County, as well as the cities of Longwood and Lake Mary. A small group of students attend from the city of Sanford to improve ethnic diversity, complying with a 1966 unitary status plan adopted by the Seminole County School Board to reverse segregation. Also the School has 25 Advanced Placement courses. Lake Mary School is well known for Athletes.
Also Lake Mary School has won several awards in different areas such as Orlando Sentinel Varsity Cup in 2005, Florida Department of Education Parent Involvement Award in 2005, Five Star School Award in 2005 and ranked at 348 of Newsweek's America's Best High Schools in 2006. This school is highly academic and offers not only several Advanced Placement courses, but a wide variety of athletic and extra curricular opportunities for all students.
