Foothill High School (Pleasanton)
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
FHS, Foothill High School is a four year secondary school in Pleasanton, California which was built in 1973. It is one of two comprehensive high schools and one alternative high school in the Pleasanton Unified School District. The current enrollment is approximately 2100 students. The school mascot is the falcon and the official rival school is Amador Valley High School. FHS was recognized as 2001 California distinguished school and a 2002 National Blue Ribbon California Nominee. In addition, a 2006 winner for the National Blue Ribbon Award.
Kevin Johnson is Principal of school. In an attempt to meet the needs of the whole child, the staff provides, in addition to their standards-based curriculum, numerous, active academic and service groups such as the multi-cultural club, and a rigorous sports orientation reflected in the excellence of the athletic programs. At the same time, character education is an integral part of their core mission. Integrity, honesty, responsibility, respect, compassion, and self-discipline describe their community of character and are emphasized in every interaction with their educational partners.
