Wabash

Wabash is a city in Wabash County, Indiana, United States. The population was 11,743 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Wabash CountyGR6. On March 31, 1880, Wabash became the first electrically lighted city in the world. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 23.7 square kilometers. 23.1 square kilometers of it is land and 0.6 square kilometers of it is water.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.3 percent under the age of 18, 9.0 percent from 18 to 24, 27.4 percent from 25 to 44, 22.9 percent from 45 to 64, and 16.4 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 91.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.3 males.
As of the census of 2000, there were 11,743 people, 4,799 households, and 3,100 families residing in the city. The population density was 509.4 per square kilometers. There were 5,136 housing units at an average density of 222.8 per square kilometers. The racial makeup of the city was 96.85 percent White, 0.37 percent African American, 1.06 percent Native American, 0.51 percent Asian, 0.03 percent Pacific Islander, 0.41 percent from other races, and 0.77 percent from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.46 percent of the population.
It can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destination that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
