Pharr is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 46,660 inhabitants. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 53.9 square kilometers.
The population density is 864.9 per square kilometers. There are 16,537 housing units at an average density of 306.5 per square kilometers. In the city the population is spread out with 34.8 percent under the age of 18, 11.3 percent from 18 to 24, 26.3 percent from 25 to 44, 15.8 percent from 45 to 64, and 11.9 percent who are 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there are 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.7 males.
Pharr experiences a boom with day tourists, owing to the clear air, town character with rich culture, high quality of life and conspicuously original history.
