Iowa City

Iowa City is a city in Johnson County, Iowa, USA. It is the principal city of the Iowa City, Iowa metropolitan statistical area which encompasses all of both Johnson and Washington counties. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 62,220 inhabitants, making it the sixth largest city in Iowa. It is the county seat of Johnson County and the home of the University of Iowa.
The city has a total area of 63.3 square kilometers. The elevation at the Iowa City municipal airport is 203.6 meters above sea level. In the city the population was spread out with 16.2 percent under the age of 18, 32.8 percent from 18 to 24, 28.1 percent from 25 to 44, 15.9 percent from 45 to 64, and 7.0 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
