Sulphur Springs

Sulphur Springs is a city in Hopkins County, Texas, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 14,551 inhabitants. It is the county seat of Hopkins County. The village became a city in 1854 when the first post office was established. The city's name was originally Bright Star.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 54.5 square kilometers. The 46.3 square kilometers of it is land and 8.2 square kilometers of it 15.11 percent is water. In the city the population was spread out with 25.9 percent under the age of 18, 9.0 percent from 18 to 24, 26.7 percent from 25 to 44, 20.9 percent from 45 to 64, and 17.5 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 88.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.4 males.
Sulphur Springs experiences a boom with day tourists, owing to the clear air, town character with rich culture, high quality of life and conspicuously original history.
