Paso Robles is a city in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 24,297 inhabitants at the 2000 census. A resort city located on the Salinas River north of San Luis Obispo, California, it is known for its hot springs, and for playing host to the California Mid-State Fair. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 44.9 square kilometers. The population density was 541.3 per square kilometers. There were 8,791 housing units at an average density of 195.9 per square kilometers.
 
In the city the population was spread out with 29.8 percent under the age of 18, 10.5 percent from 18 to 24, 27.7 percent from 25 to 44, 18.6 percent from 45 to 64, and 13.4 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 102.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.6 males.
