Houston
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Houston is the biggest city in the state of Texas and the fourth-largest in the United States. The city covers more than 1,600 square kilometers and is the county seat of Harris County. In 2005, the population of the city was 2 million. The city is at the heart of the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area, the largest cultural and economic center of the Gulf Coast region and the seventh-largest metropolitan area in the U.S.
Houston is a varied and international city, in part because of its many educational institutions and strong biomedical, energy, manufacturing and aerospace industries. Houston is ranked as one of 11 U.S. world-class cities by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network. The city has an active visual and performing arts scene as Houston is one of the five U.S. cities that offer year-round resident companies in all major performing arts.
