Hilo
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Hilo is a coastal city in the State of Hawaii and is the largest community on the island of Hawaii. In 2000, the population of the city was 40,759 and an area of 151.4 square kilometers. Hilo is the county seat of Hawai County, Hawai, and is situated in the South Hilo District. The city overlooks Hilo Bay, and is near two shield volcanoes, Mauna Loa, considered active and Mauna Kea, a dormant volcano upon which some of the best ground-based astronomical observatories are placed. The city is home to the University of Hawai at Hilo, as well as the Merrie Monarch Festival, a week-long celebration of ancient and modern hula, which takes place every year in the week following Easter.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.7 percent under the age of 18, 10.3 percent from 18 to 24, 24.4 percent from 25 to 44, 23.9 percent from 45 to 64, and 16.7 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.9 males.
Hilo is not an incorporated city and does not itself have a municipal government. Hilo has a large tourism sector, as is prevalant across the whole island. Hilo, as the second largest city in the state of Hawaii, is home to shopping centers, movie theaters, hotels, restaurants, and downtown area full of various shops.
Hilo is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in United States worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of United States.
