Owatonna
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Owatonna is a city in Steele County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 22,434 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Steele County6. Rice Lake State Park is nearby. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 32.8 square kilometers. The population density was 687.4 per square kilometers. Owatonna was first settled in 1853 around the ironically named Straight River which is anything but straight. Local legend suggests that the name Owatonna is also an ironic name for the river, but the term Ouitunya refers to the morally strong traders and not the rather whimsical and winding river. The State School Museum is also located at West Hills.
In the middle of Owatonna's downtown is the National Farmer's Bank, widely recognized as one of the premier pieces of the Prairie School of Architecture in America. It is on the national register of historic places and is now occupied by a branch of Wells Fargo Bank. Owatonna has established itself as an economic stronghold in Southern Minnesota with many diverse industries. Its two largest employers Federated Insurance and Viracon have their headquarters in Owatonna, and SPX Corporation and Cabela's both have a large presence in the community.
In the city the population was spread out with 28.1 percent under the age of 18, 8.4 percent from 18 to 24, 29.8 percent from 25 to 44, 20.8 percent from 45 to 64, and 12.9 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.5 males. Their Famous residents include Har Mar Superstar, musician and songwriter, was born in Owatonna, Casey Driessen, fiddle. It can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destination that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
