Grants Pass
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Grants Pass is a city and the county seat of Josephine County, Oregon, United States. It is believed that its name is somehow related to general Ulysses S. Grant's capture of Vicksburg, Mississippi in 1863. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 23,003 and the total population is estimated at 26,087 as of 2005.
Early Hudson's bay company hunters and trappers, following the Siskiyou trail, passed through the site beginning in the 1820s. In the late 1840s, settlers following the Applegate Trail began traveling through the area on their way to the Willamette Valley. Although a post office with the name Grants Pass was established on March 22, 1865, the city of Grants Pass was not incorporated until 1887, a year after when it had become the county seat.
According to the United States census bureau, the city has a total area of 19.9 square kilometers. 19.6 square kilometers of it is land and 0.3 square kilometers of it is water. The Rogue River runs through the city.
In the city the population was spread out with 26.0 percent under the age of 18, 8.1 percent from 18 to 24, 25.7 percent from 25 to 44, 20.7 percent from 45 to 64, and 19.4 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 86.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.7 males. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace. It enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
