Fresno
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Fresno is the sixth-largest city in California and the county seat of Fresno County. As of the 2005 California Department of Finance estimate, Fresno had a population of 471,479, making it the largest city in California's expansive Central Valley. The city is the core cultural and economic center of the Fresno metropolitan area, the second largest metropolitan area in the Central Valley with a population of 1,002,284.
Fresno serves as the economic hub of Fresno County and California’s Central Valley. While the unincorporated area and rural cities surrounding the City of Fresno remain predominantly tied to large-scale agricultural production, the City has been undergoing significant economic transformation.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 271.4 square kilometers. In the city the population was spread out with 32.9 percent under the age of 18, 11.8 percent from 18 to 24, 28.8 percent from 25 to 44, 17.2 percent from 45 to 64, and 9.3 percent who were 65 years of age or older.
The County of Fresno was formed in 1856. It was named for the abundant mountain ash trees lining the San Joaquin River. Fresno is the Spanish word for ash tree. The county was much larger than it is today, comprising its current area plus all became Madera County and parts are now San Benito, Tulare, and Kings, Inyo, and Mono counties.
Fresno is also known as the city of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
