The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.

Greensboro, North Carolina is the largest city in and county seat of Guilford County in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is the largest city in the Piedmont Triad region. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 223,891, making it the third most populous city in North Carolina. Its estimated 2006 population is 240,955. It is located at the intersection of two major interstate highways in the Piedmont region in central North Carolina.

In the early 1840s, Greensboro was selected by the state government at the request of then Governor Morehead whose estate, Blandwood, is located in Greensboro, to become a railroad hub and substantially grew in size. It soon became known as the Gateway City. The railroads transported goods to and from the textile industries, which grew up around Greensboro due to its location. Many of these businesses remained in the city until the 21st century, when many of them went bankrupt, reorganized, and/or merged with other companies.

According to the United States census bureau, the city has a total area of 283.0 square kilometers. 271.2 square kilometers of it is land and 11.8 square kilometers of it is water. Greensboro enjoys gently rolling hills and is midway between the mountains of North Carolina and its beaches to the east. The town is well-situated in terms of travel, with Interstates 40, 85, and the soon-to-be-built I-73 passing through its borders.

The age distribution is 22.3 percent under the age of 18, 14.1 percent from 18 to 24, 31.6 percent from 25 to 44, 20.2 percent from 45 to 64, and 11.9 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 89.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.6 males. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace. It enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
