Brownwood

Brownwood is a city in Brown County, Texas. Brown County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. The total population was 37,674 in 2000. Brown is named for Henry Stevenson Brown, a commander at the Battle of Velasco. It is the county seat of Brown County. The city has a total area of 32.6 square kilometers.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.5 percent under the age of 18, 12.8 percent from 18 to 24, 24.3 percent from 25 to 44, 19.2 percent from 45 to 64, and 16.2 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 90.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.1 males.
The city lies within the Brownwood Independent School District and is home to Howard Payne University. The Brownwood Independent School District is a public school district in Brownwood, Texas. It was established in 1883. It is best known as the long time home of legendary Texas high school football coach Gordon Wood, who during his career won nine state championships, most of them at Brownwood.
Brownwood is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
