Baytown
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Baytown is a city located along the Gulf Coast region in the United State of Texas within the Houston Sugar Land Baytown metropolitan area. The city is mostly in Harris County with small portion in Chambers County, located along both State Highway 146 and Interstate 10. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Baytown had a total population of 66,430 and it is the fourth-largest city within the metropolitan area.
The area of Baytown began to be settled as early as 1822. One of its earliest residents was Nathaniel Lynch, who set up a ferry crossing at the junction of the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou. The ferry service that he started is still in operation today, now known as the Lynchburg Ferry. Other early residents of Baytown include William Scott, one of Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred, and Ashbel Smith who owned a plantation in the area.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 85.9 square kilometers. In the city the population was spread out with 30.0 percent under the age of 18, 11.2 percent from 18 to 24, 29.4 percent from 25 to 44, 19.5 percent from 45 to 64, and 10.0 percent who were 65 years of age or older.
Baytown is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in United States worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of United States.
