High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
Woodrow Wilson High School is a secondary school located at 100 South Glasgow Drive in the Lakewood neighborhood of east Dallas, Texas. Woodrow was opened in 1928, is a part of the Dallas Independent School District, and serves grades 9th to 12th. Ruth Vail is Principal and Susan Kile is the Assistant Principal. In 2005, Woodrow had more National Merit Semi-finalists than Frisco High School and the same number as nearby Lake Highlands High School, all of which are much larger, suburban public schools.
 
In 2006, Newsweek named Woodrow one of the top high schools in the nation based on AP, advance placement or IB, international baccalaureate results this result placed the school in the top 3 percent of all high schools in the United States. The classes are Art History, Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Computer Science, English Composition, English Literature, European History, French V, Music Theory, Physics II-B and Physics.
 
The athletics programs include baseball, basketball, men's, basketball, women's, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, men's and women's, tennis, men's and women's, track, volleyball, wrestling. Woodrow Wilson High School is a dynamic school that promotes academic achievement, high expectations, respect, unity, and safety.
 
Woodrow Wilson High Schoolstrives to develop specific goals and high academic standards, using communication and commitment within a shared learning environment. The mission of Woodrow Wilson High School is to offer an environment in which all students will acquire the necessary skills to become responsible thinkers who appreciate diversity and are productive citizens in their community.
