Winter Springs
High school is a name used in some parts of the world and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Winter Springs High School is a high school in Winter Springs, Florida. The school was established in the year 1997. Dr. Michael R. Blasewitz is the principal of the school. The school colors are purple and gold while the mascot is Bear. The sports teams are known as Bears and Lady Bears. The total enrolment is 2759 students in the school. When the school opened in 1997, it housed only 9th and 10th grade students, with the first class graduating in 2000.
The Florida department of education gave the school an A rating in the 2003 to 2004 school years. In 2004, Winter Springs High School gained national attention for its excellent safe school ambassador program. In 2005 the school was recognized as having the second largest number of national merit semifinalists in the state of Florida. The sports teams train and play on the A.W. Epps Sports Complex, named after the high school's first principal, a city run facility within walking distance.
The school believes that intellectual and moral excellence is achieved through the active participation of many people in diverse roles, which brings in a wide range of expertise and experience. It helps them to acquire knowledge in a unique way resulting in the development of values which are essential for future success.
