High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.

Wayland High School is a secondary school located at 264 Old Connecticut path, in Wayland. The school was established in the year 1960. The warrior is the mascot and the school colors are orange or white or black. Charles Ruopp is a principal of this school. The style of the high school was inspired by college campuses. There are 8 separate buildings, each dedicated to one or more general areas of study. Construction of the school was finished in 1960. As of 2006 there were 920 students, slightly above its designed operating capacity of 900.

The New England association for schools and colleges accreditation wrote a report about the learning atmosphere at Wayland High. It reported that the school is an excellent high school that has set a high standard for the learning of its students, collectively and individually. The academic environment is one of the main reasons the student body of Wayland High School is growing so rapidly. Even parents in the area want their children to have the opportunity to be taught in one of the best public schools in the state.

The school curriculum, as well as curricular and extra curricular activities, includes experiences that enable students to realize their true potential. Wayland also is known to have an excellent theatre program, producing three seasons of theatre each year. The athletics of the school are defined by the Wayland Warriors, whose symbol is a flint spear with a feather tassel. Amongst the various sports are also collaborations with athletic rival Weston High School, including the Wayland Weston crew team and a Wayland Weston girls' hockey team.

The students and faculty blend rigorous academic studies and exchanges into lives lived fully and committed to making a difference. The mission of Wayland High School is to prepare students to become confident, competent, ethical individuals and responsible citizens by creating a positive and nurturing school environment where staff, students, parents and the community work together to promote lifelong learning and to provide opportunities for students to reach their maximum potential.
