Sequoyah
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
SHS, Sequoyah High School is a public high school located in Canton, Georgia. The enrollment was 1,952 students for the class of 2006. Sequoyah was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2005, the only high school in Georgia to receive that honor. As it stands today, SHS has a very different face than it did fifteen years ago when it first opened its doors to a homogenous group of 1,441 students.
Sequoyah offers a broad range of core classes, electives, and extra-cirricular activities that has helped the high school become known in the state and nationally. Sequoyah's test scores have consistently been higher than state averages. Sequoyah also has had the highest SAT, ACT, and EOCT test scores in Cherokee County. The students at Sequoyah High School are required to meet graduation requirements for the state of Georgia as well as those of the Cherokee County Board of Education for either a College Preparatory or Career Tech diploma.
The mission for Sequoyah High School is to provide diverse and challenging educational opportunities for all students and challenging educational opportunities for all students. The athletics programs include baseball, basketball, men's, basketball, women's, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, men's and women's, tennis, men's and women's, track, volleyball, wrestling.
Sequoyah High School is a dynamic school that promotes academic achievement, high expectations, respect, unity, and safety. Sequoyah High Schoolstrives to develop specific goals and high academic standards, using communication and commitment within a shared learning environment.
