Schreiber is known to be one of the top public high schools on Long Island. It was ranked as the 148th best public high school in the United States in 2002. Mr. Lewis is the principal.
Schreiber High School is part of the Section VIII New York State Public High School Athletic Association. As such, it competes against other public schools in Nassau County, New York. Schreiber is known for the high academic standings of its students as well as the awards they receive in numerous competitions. Schreiber's Academic Decathlon team was New York State's winning team from 1997 to 2004. They placed second in 2005, their first time not attending the national competition in eight years.
The athletics programs include baseball, basketball, men's, basketball, women's, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, men's and women's, tennis, men's and women's, track, volleyball, wrestling.
