Riverside (Greer)
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Riverside High School is a public school in the community of Greer, South Carolina, with its postal address in Greenville, South Carolina. The school, which serves grades 9 to 12, is a part of Greenville County School District. The school opened in the fall of 1973 with 650 students on a 65 acre campus in a rural area near the town of Greer. Riverside boasts many services to offer students and the surrounding communities. Warriors is the school mascot and the colors are red and blue. Andrew Crowley is the principal of the school.
In Fall 2006, students began attending a brand new building on the same premises. It may be the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly high school in the nation. In the long run, it will cost less to operate the school and in the short run it will provide hands on learning for students. Their departments includes English or language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, arts, career and technology.
Riverside High School's philosophy of education is a belief that the school must share the responsibility of the individual student's development in all areas of his mental, physical, cultural, civic, ethical, emotional and social growth. The school must accept this responsibility in order to prepare the student for the rapidly changing social and economic conditions of the future. In addition to this responsibility, the school must contribute to the intrinsic value of the years that the student actually spends in the school so that those years will be of personal worth to the student.
The mission of Riverside High School is to prepare students to become confident, competent, ethical individuals and responsible citizens by creating a positive and nurturing school environment where staff, students, parents, and the community work together to promote lifelong learning and to provide opportunities for students to reach their maximum potential.
