High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Jamestown High School is a public secondary school located in James City County, Virginia, just outside Williamsburg, Virginia. It is part of Williamsburg-James City County public schools. Jamestown opened in 1997, with its entire student body coming from Lafayette High School. Though the high school is located in a Williamsburg mailing address, it is named after the Jamestown Settlement, which is only a few miles away. Chuck Wagner is the principal of the school. Eagle is the school mascot and the school colors are green, black and white.
Jamestown High School's student body is 70 percent white, 23 percent black, 4 percent Hispanic and 3 percent Asian. The school curriculum, as well as curricular and extra curricular activities, includes experiences that enable students to realize personal and civic goals which allow them to mature and to be responsible members of our constantly changing society. Though Jamestown is not even 10 years old, it has already won 13 state titles, which include five girls’ tennis titles from 2000 to 2002 and 2004 to 2005. Three girls swimming titles from 2000 to 2002 and one boys swimming title in 2001. The Eagles also defeated Maryland Signee Emery Wallace and her Hidden Valley team 58-41 to claim the AA Girls Basketball title in 2006.

The students and faculty blend rigorous academic studies and exchanges into lives lived fully and committed to making a difference. In this regard, knowledge, honor, courage, and service stand out as elements of character important in their daily lives and to the future of each student. The school believes that intellectual and moral excellence is achieved through the active participation of many people in diverse roles, which brings in a wide range of expertise and experience.
