Independence
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Independence high school has a long tradition of success award-winning teachers, championship sport teams, and highly-recognize academic programs. It is located in Mint Hill in eastern Mecklenburg County and their diverse student body of approximately 2750 students in grades 9th to 12th represents 37 countries and 54 languages. Internships in career and technical education and academic programs, as well as their affiliation with 15 business and community partners, give students first-hand career experiences.
Independence high school academy career programs include medical academy, clothing design, interior design, travel and tourism academy, culinary arts, information technology systems academy, early childhood education, computer programming, network administration, automotive technology academy and marketing. Many staff members have graduate degrees and advanced certification in AP, advance placement, IB, international baccalaureate. They have many National Board Certified Teachers on staff. Newsweek magazine ranked them among the top 500 schools nationwide.
The athletics programs include baseball, basketball, men's, basketball, women's, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, men's and women's, tennis, men's and women's, track, volleyball, wrestling. Independence high school is a dynamic school that promotes academic achievement, high expectations, respect, unity, and safety. Independence high school strives to develop specific goals and high academic standards, using communication and commitment within a shared learning environment.
The mission of Independence high school is to offer an environment in which all students will acquire the necessary skills to become responsible thinkers who appreciate diversity and are productive citizens in their community.
