High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Harry P. Harding University High School was established in 1992 as an International Baccalaureate school in Charlotte, North Carolina. Since March 2000, Harding has repeatedly been on the NewsWeek's Top 100 High Schools in the nation in challenging students to undertake rigorous Advanced Placement, AP and International Baccalaureate, IB classes.
Harding University High School serves students throughout Mecklenburg County who choose to undertake a college preparatory curriculum. Their magnet programs are Mathematics, Science, and Environmental Studies and International Baccalaureate. Harding was ranked number 66 nationally in a recent issue of Newsweek magazine as one of most challenging high school programs in the nation.
Harding University High School is a county-wide college-prep magnet within the CMS, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Student Assignment Plan. Students may apply either for the Mathematics, Science, and Environmental Studies magnet program or the International Baccalaureate magnet program. Students considering the International Baccalaureate program should be sure to read carefully the program's course requirements. Students not currently enrolled in CMS who wish to be mailed a Student Assignment Application should complete a New Student Enrollment form. New Student Enrollment forms are available at Harding or at the CMS Family Application Center.
Harding University High School recognizes the value of participation in extracurricular activities. The Band and Clubs provide opportunities for students to develop leadership and communication skills as well as to serve both the school and the wider community. Students who are actively engaged in a wide variety of activities have a much richer learning experience.
The goal of Harding University High School is to propose the quality training that is necessary if students wish to obtain the skills essential to gain a competitive edge in the business world in the present day.
