East Grand Rapids
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
EGR, East Grand Rapids High School, their entire school community is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. East students are motivated and enthusiastic and have opportunities for success with a wide array of academic and co-curricular activities. East teachers continually challenge students through a strong knowledge base and a wide variety of teaching techniques. East parents and community members generously support their academic, co-curricular and athletic programs.
East Grand Rapids Public Schools is located in the heart of a small neighborhood community in western Michigan. Mr. Patrick J. Cwayna is Principal, and Mrs. Jenny Fee is Assistant Principal. Three elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school provide about 2800 students with strong, challenging academic programs, excellent opportunities in the arts, and over 100 athletic state championships. The community of EGR is also home to Spectrum Hospital’s Blodgett campus, the Gaslight Village shopping district, and beautiful Reeds Lake.
There sports are Interschoolastic sports include basketball, volleyball, coeducational sports include tennis, x-country, swim and dive, track and field, and water polo. East Grand Rapids High School Points of Pride are leader in the state in high school Michigan educational assessment program scores receiving the Governor's Cup in 2001 and 2002, more national merit students than any other public school their size in Michigan, advanced Placement classes offered in calculus AB and BC, chemistry, English, microeconomics, physics, Spanish, statistics, U.S. government, U.S. history, and world history, over 70 percent of their student body participating in youth development programming, new performing arts center showcases their award-winning music and theatric performers.
East Vision, a leading school newspaper in state, regional and national competitions, 100 State Championships accumulated, wireless technology allowing technology integration any time, any place. East Grand Rapids High School mission is to create a school community with a shared voice, vision and sense of responsibility.
