High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
Paul M. Dorman High School opened its doors on August 27, 1964. It is located in Roebuck, South Carolina. Named for the visionary who had dreamed of a consolidated high school that would serve Spartanburg County's District Six communities with excellence in education and an appreciation for tradition, Dorman High School was a consolidation of Roebuck and Fairgoers High Schools. Mr. Paul M. Dorman encouraged a leader in South Carolina education, Mr. Doyle Boggs of Hartsville, to assume the principal's position. He also found a successful athletic educator, Mr. Wade Corn, to assume the duties of head football coach and athletic director. Mr. Dorman selected Mr. Allen O. Clark to become assistant principal.
 
Special Academic Programs includes Advanced Program, AP courses in American History, Art History, Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, English Language, English, Literature, European History, Physics, Psychology, Spanish, Statistics, and Studio Art, Curriculum adaptations for gifted and talented students in academics, drama, and art. Dorman athletics includes 20 varsity, 14 junior varsity and 3 ninth grade teams including basketball, cheerleading, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling.
 
Extra-Curricular Activites are the diversity of their student population is reflected in the sixty student clubs and performing groups sponsored by Dorman High School. Clubs include National Honor Society and National Beta Club. In addition, their clubs encourage students with similar interests to develop activities that will be enriching 4 academic teams, 7 career-oriented clubs, 14 performing groups, 10 special interest clubs and an Army Program. 
 
The mission of Dorman High School is to provide an exemplary student-centered education within an atmosphere that empowers the community of learner’s students, faculty and parents to achieve excellence in learning. As the community of learners provides an atmosphere that fosters mutual respect and promotes a high quality curriculum, students can achieve at their highest potential and become productive in society with a belief in learning as a life-long activity.
